Irene Pérez Hernández is a sculptor working across a wide range of media which frequently explores the territory between sculpture and performance and seek to challenge historically-coded associations between materials and contexts.
Rooted in an interest in the interaction of line, motion and space, Hernández interrogates the quotidian rituals of domestic life inscribed in the fragile social and political landscape of late capitalism. Her performative works often involve repetitive acts or rhythmic presentations, while Installations respond to, or encoding meanings in, specific spaces are key component of her expansive pracitice.
Graduated with Masters of Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, London 2008. Instituional presentartions include Künstlerhaus Dortmund, Ars Electronica, Linz, Total Museum of Art, Seoul, YeoJu Art Museum and Gangwon Triennale,, Korea, Simultanhalle, Cologne (commission) Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Santo Domingo, Wells Museum Somerset UK and DECAD Berlin. Hernandez was the recipient for the 2022 Black Forest Baar Art Prize Germany.
